“Whether it’s the abuse of drugs, depression, or something as simple and devastating as a loss of hope, SU QLD holds the answer for youth.”

A Cairns father of five, who has helped to care for nearly 200 foster children, has been named far north Queensland’s Father of the Year.
Kerry Eaton is a self-employed engineering surveyor who has cared for foster children for the past 20 years.
Mr Eaton says his oldest daughter nominated him for the award.
“When I was originally told about it I thought, ‘well, why me, instead of all the other fathers out there’,” he said.
“There’s lots of other fathers out there that are just as deserving and maybe even more deserving than myself.”
Mr Eaton says he is proud to have won the award.
“It’s a really big buzz and it’s very emotional – it sort of hits you on all fronts,” he said.
“It’s a bang emotionally as far as knowing that that’s how much my daughter thinks of me.
“It’s not just my eldest daughter – it’s echoed through all my children.”

All proceeds from the event will support the school chaplaincy service.
The carnival is open to the public and kicks off at 5pm, with official proceedings to begin at 6.30pm.
