Qld school chaplains receive early christmas present from pm

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has just delivered a very special Christmas present to the 340,000 students and their parents who school chaplains connect with across 640 schools in Queensland.

As the major employing authority for school chaplains in Queensland, SU Qld welcomes the weekend announcement by the Prime Minister that federal funding for the National School Chaplaincy Program will continue through to the end of 2011.

SU Qld CEO Tim Mander says: “We welcome the Prime Minister’s announcement as it provides a degree of certainty that funding will continue for those school chaplains who faced the prospect of no funding beyond next year.

2009 Queensland Father of the Year is Richard Baldry

The Hon. Phil Reeves, Queensland Minister for Child Safety, today announced Richard Baldry as the winner of the Queensland Father of the Year award for 2009.

Richard Baldry from Bundaberg has 15 adopted or foster children (aged 2 to 32) and eight grandchildren. (more…)

State of Origin Video Referee calls on Queenslanders to nominate a Father of the Year

Qld Father of the Year 20092009 State of Origin video referee, Tim Mander, is this week calling on Queenslanders to nominate a Queensland Father of the Year.

Nominations began yesterday (Monday 22nd June) and close on Friday 31st July.

For the first time in Queensland history, seven regional Qld Father of the Year winners will be chosen from across the state in the lead-up to Fathers Day on 6 September.

Chaplaincy coordinator nominated for Australia day award

Jennifer Thompson has been nominated for Special Achievement as part of the inaugural Moreton Bay Regional Council 2009 Australia Day Awards.

She was nominated in recognition of the outstanding contribution she has made to the local community as a District Coordinator for school chaplaincy in Moreton Bay. (more…)

Queensland principals give School Chaplains thumbs up

School chaplaincy is thriving in Queensland state schools, according to a recent survey of principals, teachers, parents and students.

Exactly one year after the Federal Government began funding school chaplaincy programs in state schools, findings from a Chaplaincy Evaluation Study reveal that Queensland school communities are very happy with the performance of their local chaplains.

Despite a few early critics, this Study provides further evidence that school chaplains are a vital resource in our state schools,” said Tim Mander, CEO of SU Qld, the major employing authority of state school chaplains in Queensland.

The Study’s findings were released this week at SU Qld’s Frontline Appeal Dinner, Brisbane’s largest charity fundraising dinner in which SU Qld anticipates 1600 people will raise $700,000 to help support school chaplaincy programs across the state. (more…)
